6 Week Countdown to 18-19

We’re getting so close now to starting our winter team’s seasons!  Choreography sessions pick up in just 4 short weeks – I really can’t believe that.
If you’re like me, there’s still so much to do to prep uniforms, choose the team “look” and finalize music selections before it’s too late.  Seems like I’m not alone.  Deborah Nelson from Satin Stitches reminded me how many awesome options we really have to decide on now that MN costume rules have a bit more flexibility than our recent past.  She sent me a nice update on what’s going on at Satin Stitches these days:

It’s a new season with your new teams! If you are still looking for new dance team uniforms for your Fall season, check out our basics in our continually updated Web Store (live link to dance team costumes). For those of you who may be familiar with our Satin Stitches FULL CUSTOM dance team costumes and uniforms, we now have Customizable basics, along with stylish performance costumes for all genres of HS, JV and Studio dance.

We offer basic biketards to work in conjunction with tops or dresses. We offer basic shorts, pants and leggings to coordinate with your tops or T-shirts. We offer basic unitards and dresses to be worn ‘as is’ or contract with us to embellish with rhinestones.

We offer ‘Satin Stitches’ trimmed or DIY rhinestoning, based on your budget and needs. We even offer several blogs with tips on rhinestoning (live link), and even a video to show how we, as professionals, apply rhinestones to all types of costumes (live link). Buy your stones from us, or from our business partner, Rhinestones unlimited.

Trends this fall include draped lace or mesh shirts or sashes over either a basic biketard, unitard or dress. Embroidered appliques continue to be very popular. Buy your own and embellish your basics, from Rhinestones Unlimited if you have crafty booster parents. Our blog titled ‘Applique SOS’ (live link) can help your DIY personnel.

We also have a blog that shows the use of appliques and special rhinestoning. (live link)

So, if your team is creative with embellishment, order your basics from Satin Stitches and invest in your team’s creativity!

The modest cut leotard has also made a comeback! Boy shorts have been the norm for many years. Finally teams are realizing that the legline on a leotard is much more flattering for the leg, and can make your legs look longer. No, we aren’t going crazy with those 80’s high-cut ‘French-cut’ leglines, but maybe next year!!?

Because the rules changed for decades of ‘cover everything up’ in the world of Minnesota HS dance team uniforms, costumes are much more creative with faux cutouts to inject some style into necklines and midriff areas on costumes. (Yes, no skin, but opaque-lining below the collar bone can create fun ‘new’ looks). And modest keyholes in the back open up additional ‘catalog’ styles that can be purchased that meet ‘the rules’ for uniforms for your teams.
