Conference Highlights – Week 7

Conference action is picking up around the state and we have more additions from late last week and a few early meets from this week to recap. With thanksgiving over, we are in full on December frenzy and results are interesting to say the least. Lets get right to our lead story:

South Suburban Conference: Last night we had round 2 of kick in the south suburban conference hosted by Apple Valley. Eastview took home another comfortable win, but the biggest story is Lakeville South. The Cougars have always been in the middle of the SSC, but last night they stormed into a team-best 2nd place over host Apple Valley and perennial powerhouse Burnsville. The blaze had some deductions last night (reasons unknown to me) and slipped to 4th. Whatever south is bringing to the table is lighting up my twitter feed, so make sure to catch them at an upcoming meet. The SSC switches to jazz after this, before coming to a close on the 21st of this month.

Classic Suburban: The classic teams took on some kick last night as well, with Henry Sibley and South St. Paul taking home blue in their divisions. South St. Paul is looking like they’ve got a few things clicking for them in both categories, trying to take over 2nd place from Simley.

Northwest Suburban: NWSC changed from jazz to kick on Monday night over at Andover. The Maple Grove team finished in first on their side with some take-notice finishes from Champlin Park and Andover. Blaine is usually strong in this group, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them clean things up and try to move ahead later in the year. Coming back from a break was probably a little rough on everyone and scores trended lower than they did prior to turkey. If your Monday practice seemed a little rough, at least you didn’t have to compete kick like NWSC….ouch.

Central Lakes Conference: The CLC is always a fun one to watch because we have such a diverse group of AAA and AA teams. They got started with a kick meet just prior to Thanksgiving and Brainerd pulled out a win with Tech just behind. AA powerhouse Sartell took 3rd this time, so I’d suspect Tech is having a particularly good year and will be a threat in 4AAA.

Missota Conference: AA state champ Chaska has moved back to AAA and goes against section rival Chanhassen in this meetup. The kick meet last week had Chaska on top with Academy of Holy Angels making a splash in 2nd place. AHA has had some very strong years in AA, but has been on a bit of a re-build the past 2 years. Perhaps that phase is over for them. Keep an eye on their upcoming December invite to see how they’ll stack against the usual AA suspects.
