Conference Highlights – Week 8

Conference action is really picking up speed as we head towards our first conference championships next week. Many conferences have had 3 or more events already and leaders are starting to stand out from the pack. Here’s where things stand so far:

North Suburban Conference: NSC did a double up day last Thursday with both kick and jazz meets on the same night at Fridley.  Benilde jumped out in front with a clean and technical kick dance, with Totino Grace taking home the high score in jazz. Knowing how TG develops throughout the year, I wouldn’t be surprised if these placements continue to flip flop on the way to their championship next week.

Missota Conference: Chaska leads this bunch in both kick and jazz, with Academy of Holy Angels making a splash in the kick division over a tough team from Chanhassen rounding out 3rd.

Lake Conference: The west metro’s finest matched up in kick last week, with Eden Prairie showing it’s ready to get back to the big time in kick with a first place. Minnetonka made some noise coming in 2nd over Wayzata and taking a win over Faribault last Saturday besides. This one is unusually strong in kick this year and should be fun come January.

South Suburban Conference: The SSC had a jazz meet for the first time this year, with Eastview taking the win. Lakeville South followed up in 2nd over a usually strong Burnsville squad. The cougars are making a surge as both a kick and jazz team this year and want to move up in the overall standings in the SSC. Look for some decisive battles come next weekend’s championship.

Northwest Suburban Conference: Maple Grove continues its jazz run of the table, with Blaine and Andover keeping it tight. Toss Champlin Park in there and you have a tight bunch for 2nd place behind the Crimson.

Mississippi 8 Conference: The new-look Mississippi 8 has Rogers taking the top spot again, with St. Francis making some major gains in the points department. Rogers only won by one rank this week, so things are getting tighter here.

Classic Suburban Conference: CSC had another kick meet last night, with Henry Sibley setting themselves up with 3 wins before the championships. Simley gained some ground on South St. Paul by winning this one in kick, keeping things interesting for 2nd place.

Tri-Metro Conference: This all class A conference had it’s first meet of the year in jazz and host St. Croix Lutheran took home the win over Concordia Academy and Brooklyn Center. These teams will all re-match this weekend at the Fridley invitational.
