Friday Preview – January Heats Up!

Temps are rising and so is the pressure at each meet this weekend.  This particular weekend has some big-time matchups in AA and AAA, as well as some large showings for class A and conference championships as we close the regular season out.  Only one more regular season week to go!  I’m starting to get some sections info in, and the state order of performance is now posted!  Check out the kick order and jazz order.  On to this weekend!

Farmington Invitational:  Farmington hosts a small AAA meet for mostly east and south metro teams.  Cretin, Farmington, East Ridge, and others get together for a quick day here.

Belle Plaine Invitational:  This regional A and AA meet should see a strong matchup as section 2A gets together for the first time in quite a while.  New Ulm Cathedral had a great day showing at Marshall last week and will go against a new field this week.

Monticello Invitational:  This mostly AA meet will feature lots of section 4AA’s area players, with some room for a new face to take home a trophy this week.  Bemidji makes the trip down to go against Anoka and Buffalo in AAA.

Totino Grace Invitational:  The big name AA matchup this weekend is at TG, with the defending state champs playing host to a pretty serious lineup.  AA fans may want to get a seat here early as this one is gonna be fun.  Section 2AA will be one to watch for sure as things have been all over the place and no clear top 3 have shown up from that group just yet.  Sartell and Totino will have a good match here to watch.

Wayzata Invitational:  AAA fans will want to make their annual pilgrimage to the ever-so-small Wayzata parking lot pretty early to get a prime spot for this highlight of the AAA season.  I don’t have a schedule just yet, but there wont be a team to miss at this one.  Several “debuts” of new dances, as well as re-tooled and final JV performances will be worth catching.

Yellow Medicine East Invitational:  The most eclectic group of class A I’ve ever seen will be trekking out to Granite City for the YME invite this year.  This one should be a good state preview as we’ll have everyone from Zumbrota to Duluth Marshall there along with Concordia Academy, BOLD, Montevideo, Canby, RCW, and a host of other western A teams.  Keep an eye on these scores class A fans.

Hawley Invitational:  The biggest event north of 94 this week will be at the “united clay becker” team’s meet in Hawley.  Frazee, Aitkin, Crosby, Pelican Rapids, and Bagley join in with a 12 team group here.  A big day for section 4A.

3 Rivers Conference Championships:  No schedule, but all small section 1A teams from far south eastern MN will get together to make a show before sections in Dover.  Wabasha is certainly looking strong this year against favorites from Dover, St. Charles, and a few surprises that always come from this group.

Big 9 Conference Championships:  The larger AA/AAA teams from the Southeast will be meeting at Mayo this weekend for a head to head championship.  Austin and Faribault always have a good day day here, and Faribault will have something new to show in kick here for sure.
