In Depth – Mid December Scores Report

Well we’ve only got a few more nights and one big day of dance left for 2014, then we’ll be in the books with the first half of the year already – can you believe it?  Some of the crazy results we got last week were the result of illness and mass-issues which can derail the best intentions.  I can’t believe how many people are telling me they have 5-6 dancers out sick at a time.  Ouch!  Wash those hands folks!  (the microbiologist says)  I hope to get our first section by section leaderboards out over the break, along with some new podcast episodes.  Stay tuned during your down-time as the dance world keeps moving towards an exciting January.  Lets see what happened last week:

Class A Jazz:  Rockford, BOLD, Frazee, and Crosby are all over that 65 point mark for December, occupying all 7 top performance scores in this division so far.  With so many top jazz teams keeping their routines under wraps, it’s hard to say if any or all of these teams will be top contenders in the state field.  The first weekend of January should really give us more to work with.

Class A Kick:  Aitkin continues on top, with Montevideo and PACT Charter taking spots in the 70 point club.  Aitkin had to drop their varsity kick routine from the Albany meet last weekend due to illness, and a few key players still haven’t recorded a score for the season.  Duluth Marshall and Crosby seem to be out for a big kick finish this year in an already loaded section 4A.  Keep an eye on that tough section going ahead.

Class AA Jazz:  No surprise, but Totino Grace and Benilde St. Margarets are battling out the best scores in this division.  There are some fun newcomers to the top to watch though – especially a surging Mound Westonka team.  Sartell, Simley, and New Prague jazz have all been doing well too.  Lots of AA results are missing (Fridley meet and Waconia) so as soon as I get those composite sheets I’ll be sure to add them in.

Class AA Kick:  Sartell racked up an impressive 85.4 this past Saturday at Eastview, a big statement for them heading into the holidays.  Austin and Benilde are holding on to 2 and 3 – a fun change of pace to see them up this high, this fast.  Totino Grace and St. Cloud Cathedral aren’t going away quietly and are working hard building scores heading into the new year.  Cannon Falls has to settle for 6th so far, with a slow start to the year for them, I’m sure we haven’t seen the last of them either.  Check out the upcoming AHA invite for more AA action.

Class AAA Jazz:  Eastview moves up to take a nice spot on top, with a strong showing from Maple Grove and Wayzata to round out our current top 3. Those 3 teams have the top 9 performances so far.  Very impressive.  Chaska, Edina, Lakeville South, and Spring Lake Park have all broken that 80 point mark in a tight field.  Section 2AAA will be a rough fight, we can already see that!

Class AAA Kick:  Again we see Eastview holding on to the top place, with a pleasant surprise from the Wayzata team showing they’re just as serious about their kick routines with an 84 last weekend.  Faribault keeps the pace with another strong December showing – I’m sure they’ve got more coming.  Brainerd, Chaska, Lakeville South, and Maple Grove all have 80s by now as well.
