Inspiration: A Simley Dance Dad Shares His Thoughts

I love getting comments and submissions from my readers – I shared some student poetry last year and this year I wanted to share something written by a long time dance dad from Simley, Dan Heesch.  He writes a poem for his daughter and Simley every year and this is the last time as his daughter will be graduating.  So glad you were willing to share some nice thoughts with us Dan!

The Easy Chair

I caught her staring at me

As I rested in my easy chair

A half a smile on her face

Little finger twirling in her hair

“Daddy bet that you can’t catch me”

Was the cry I heard her say

The race was on, the house was our floor

A special dance to end the day

I’d chase her round and round the house

Squealing and laughter filled the air

I think sometimes she actually slowed down

Probably just to make it fair

And when I’d finally catch her

The reward for both was sweet

Tickles galore and butterfly kisses

And love forever to hold and keep

My little girl is all grown up now

Her dance’s on a gym floor

And soon she will be graduating

Into the world to discover more

As hard as it may be, I have to let you go

But there is just one last thing I wanted you to know

“When life gets you down, And things get too hard to bear,

Please, come home and find me,

I’ll be waiting in my easy chair.”
