November News and Notes

Well we’ve made it 2 weeks into winter season and the hard work is really setting in for teams statewide.  With tryouts over, teams set, and dances well underway there are a lot of happenings going on we should mention here.

MADT Meeting and Student Convention:  The coaches association again hosted their semi-annual meeting and student leadership convention at Chaska High School on November 1.  The event was a huge success with a great showing of dancers from teams statewide.  Highlights included classes from area college dancers, current coaches, and the best of our area ballet and studio instructors.  New this year, students signed up for particular sessions — if you signed up early you got your pick!  Many of the last minute registrations will want to think about being early next time around to get their picks.  I know the MADT had their hands full trying to accommodate all the requests.  On the coaches side, no new proposals or rules changes came out of the meeting.

MSHSL news:  Again this year coaches have a long list of trainings and rules meetings to get checked off before competitions get underway, make sure you’re up to speed as every staff member has at least some requirements.  Also, don’t forget to update your team roster and schedule online for MSHSL via the coaches’ clipboard.  It’s a requirement and can be done quickly and easily by coaches or administration.  Many sections will be status quo for this year again, with no changes to the assignments.  Meetings and drawings for order of performance will be forthcoming if they happen formally for your region.  I still don’t have word on a section 2AAA site location as of now.

Schedules and Invitationals:  Oh my do we have a TON of meets this year.  No wonder the judges are already feeling the strain.  It’s a bear of a project to keep your meets updated, so do me a favor and pop on over to the “schedules” tab and see if your events are listed correctly.  Also, its time to start sending in pre-meet schedules to be posted for parents, fans, and visitors.  I’m already looking for those November 15th show schedules so we can pack your stands for your debut performances!  I take pdfs, word, or just an email text with details about your start times and order of performance.  Invitational hosts should get those out to me as soon as you notify your coaches by emailing mnhsdanceteam@gmail.com

Results:  If you are a meet host, judge, coach, or someone in the know – we need results!  I take just about anything legible, including photo snaps, to be transcribed into the results tables.  Timely submission is key to keeping on top of our huge season – so getting something to me within 24 hours of your meet end would be wonderful.  We post final placements and ranks from all divisions (all places, not just top 3) and the score summary which totals points per category.  I don’t need or use every last unique score, so just the summary sheet will work.  JV is placement only.
