October Updates: Winter is Coming!

Choreography window starts in just ONE week – can you believe it?  It barely looks like fall around here and yet, winter is coming.  I saw a news story today that Colorado closed Vail pass thru the mountains for the first time this season with a major snowstorm.  So it’s getting real, folks.

In dance team land – we’re getting ramped up for the season with a lot of training and meetings on the schedule.  The coaches associations’ CCE event was held at Eastview High School on Saturday September 30th.  This every-other-year event brought a record number of participants from all over the state who came to learn new techniques and talk about the mental game of being a coach.  If you didn’t go this year, mark that one down for 2019.

Coming up, the student convention for MADT will be November 11th at Chaska High School.  Registration for that event opens next Monday so get on it early.  I’m teaching a class for students this year for the first time – I can’t wait to see you there!  Also next Monday, teams can begin the choreography for 2017-18 routines.  Dancers and coaches participating in that should be sure to check out the newly uploaded 17-19 rules book right here on mnhsdanceteam.com  There are a LOT of details to remember.  Routine requirements, safety rules, re-use of choreography and music, even who can participate and when is outlined in your rules book.  Since the league tends to send out only one copy per school – I’ve shared it here publicly for everyone to be up to speed.  Also check out your new scoresheets again.  Its been a while since I’d looked them over.

Finally – if you haven’t yet seen the NEW updates from the National Dance Coaches Association, you can take a look at their fall newsletter here.  NDCA membership is now open and we’re busy planning for our awesome national convention coming up next spring in Las Vegas!  I’m going for sure (if I don’t manage to break my ankle again!) – and I hope to see many Minnesota representatives there.
