Well it looks like the league pulled a fast one on us and released the new section assignments a day early. It was both fun and strange to be with a bunch of other coaches who all learned their fate at the same time, reactions were certainly varied. Lets dig in and look at what all went down for the next 2 seasons. Complete listings are at www.mshsl.org

Who’s New: Concordia Academy moved in from 2AA, Randolph hopped on over from the overloaded 1A section. With Cannon Falls gone to AA, they seemed a better fit with a more northern group.
Who’s Out: The huge ones here are Aitkin and Duluth Marshall moving over to 4A. This section is now wide open for a new champion. Wrenshall and Ely (both no-shows last year) also bumped to 4A, but won’t likely appear. Minneapolis Washburn bumped to AA, as did Richfield after opt-down seasons under the economic exceptions the league allows.

Section 4AAA: (14 kick and jazz)
St. Cloud Tech
Who’s In: Buffalo and Rogers join the mix from the terribly hard section 2.
Who’s Out: None
There seems to be a bit more movement than first meets the eye. All in all 23 teams shift in one way or another. My bets were on New Ulm Cathedral and GFW going to their 4th section in 6 years…but that seems to be one of the few staying put! Just goes to show you can’t do any guessing when it comes to sections time, nothing will turnout as you expect. Should be some fun matchups ahead. Montevideo should make trouble for A, while Cannon Falls takes their state champion ways to AA. Section 1AA used to be the hardest, but now boasts 7 schools who used to be class A at some point. Chaska and Faribault just upped the ante in AAA where new rivalries are sure to appear. We’ll be seeing how this pans out on the dancefloor come next season.
