Weekend Preview – 1/12/13

It’s Friday already folks  — time to talk about what’s on tap for this weekend’s dance team action!  Hopefully the freezing rain won’t turn your travels into a skating rink as we have some major long distance matchups taking place.  Lets take a peek:

Marshall Invitational:

The Marshall Tigers stay at home this weekend and play host to Wilmar and Sartell in AA.  The real story here will be the class A super meet of 16 teams.  YME will be seeing Cannon Falls for the first time this year in kick and Lac Qui Parle will be looking to spoil the party for both of them, coming off a big 2nd place finish at Alexandria last weekend.  Cannon Falls still won’t be doing a jazz dance, waiting for a very late debut of that this year.

Lakeville South Invitational:

South will be a big matchup of 12 AAA teams from Rochester to Brainerd and Bemidji.  Most of the powerhouse AAA teams will be at home or at conference meets this weekend, so Brainerd should be looking good to finish strong against a field of teams who didn’t qualify for state last year.  Kenyon and Hmong Academy will be having season debuts at this meet in a tiny class A  division.

Minnetonka Invitational:

Totino Grace and Faribault will get a key matchup at this meet, while the AAA division will play host to 5 varsity teams.  Mounds View and Henry Sibley will get a good look at each other prior to upcoming sectional action.

Waconia Invitational:

AA matchup should be an interesting one.  Benilde will jump in the west metro and outstate mix, with strong finisher Montevideo looking to make an impact against section rivals after a big win at Alexandria last weekend.

Other Invitationals:

Rocori – no schedule.  Small AA meet

Hawley – no schedule.  big meeting of northern class A teams not making the trek to Marshall.

Conference Championships:

Northwest Suburban Championship – Maple Grove High School

(no schedule)

The Crimson look to hold on to their top spot in the conference while everyone will be scrambling to see who will be looking good at the northern AAA section meet coming up in 3 weeks.  This group may have a few surprise finishers as the whole group is finally matched for conference points in the finale.

Missota Conference Championship – Chanhassen High School

The Chaska Hawks look to continue their dominance at the AAA host and cross-town rival, Chanhassen.  The Storm are looking good this year and won’t be going away quietly.  Look for Northfield to do well here also.
