Weekend Preview – 15/16 Debuts!

Its been so long I almost forgot to even do a weekend preview!  I can’t believe we’re finally here – but at the same time, November pre-season sure flew by.  I don’t remember this sneaking up on us quite so quick.  Maybe it’s how much fall sports overlapped with winter dance this year, but I’m sort of wondering how we got here in one piece.  Lots of claps to those who already competed this week, that’s no small feat to be ready that early.  Many of us are taking the floor here this weekend, lets dig in to the schedules and highlight the early season excitement.

Burnsville Invitational:  The largest meet this weekend will be going on at Burnsville where a few AAA and AA names will be setting the tone for their season.  Eastview makes a rare early-season showing, and Brainerd will be making the trek down from up north to join 8 other big schools.  New Prague will be making their AAA debut, while Northfield will be making their AA first showing.  Holy Angels and Simley will be on the do-not-miss list for the AA division here.  With no previous records, this should be a wide open opportunity.

Delano Invitational:  This first-time meet will feature many faces from section 3AA, along with a debut of the Rockford team’s new kick program in the AA field.  Be sure to catch what Mound Westonka is up to this year at this meet after a double section title last year.

Wabasha Kellogg Invitational:  Class A gets underway in the southeast at WK.  Fillmore Central will be a brand new program to watch here, along with big names from St. Charles and Wabasha.

Maple Grove Invitational:  The Crimson’s annual “Pink” invitational will be a smaller group this year with 3 weekends between Thanksgiving and Christmas returning to the schedule.   A/AA will be an eclectic mix with faces from section 2AA, 2A and 4A.  The big school division will be a nice blend of NWSC members and metro teams.  Watch for Chanhassen’s new routines and of course the defending state champs will be hosting.  There will probably be some surprises and mix-ups of the norm.

Shakopee Invitational:  This quick and small meet will feature Shakopee, Edina, and Hopkins – but  if you are a fan of the drama of section 2AAA – you won’t be disappointed to see these teams in action.  Jazz only this time around.

Eagan Invitational:  The evening nightcap will be the Eagan Wildcats debut with a small mix of teams, but some great names.  Irondale, Anoka, Eagan, Fairbault, and East Ridge will all take the floor here.  Anoka is red hot after last year’s move up in section 4AAA, and should look strong after performing Friday night as well.
