Well, I skipped a weekend preview last week – sorry about that. It sure didn’t feel like a Friday and I was away from my dance team “hub” and enjoying the time off. I did get to Rocori’s invitational by Saturday, and Plainview also hosted on the 3rd. Results for those are posted as always. Speaking of results, I’m gonna be a bit behind while I’m enjoying a jaunt to sunny Mexico here over the weekend. After the first 13 years of being in dance team I realized I need a winter break or I’m just not a happy camper, so I’ll be making my annual pilgrimage to Sayulita. I’m sure you’re right there with me after this bitter week we’ve been having. Results will still trickle in and I’ll try to at least get them posted on the main page, even if I can’t get them all formatted nicely for the score summary until mid-next week. Keep an eye out for more podcasts, results updates, and previews coming up this month. It’s the most wonderful time of the year after all! On to the previews:
Mississippi 8 Conference Championships: Big Lake is hosting the new and improved conference finals for this group, with Rogers and Chisago Lakes both poised to do well. A fun and quick day for those looking for some hardware-on-the-line viewing. Meet schedule is posted.
Minnetonka Invitational: The Skippers host a mixed class invitational this weekend for those not in conference action. Class A/AA will get rolling in the morning with Montevideo and Norwood joining the class AA pack of Orono, Duluth Denfeld, Mound Westonka, and others. AAA will feature Chaska, Hopkins, and Forest Lake meeting up with a field of 7 varsity teams. Should be a fun mid-season match.
Alexandria Invitational: This huge class A and AA meet is a true pilgrimage for those who like class A and northern AA teams. A new weekend this year for this event, so the lineups can and will shift. A great place to check out the first big meet of the season for class A powerhouses. Be sure to check out the jazz division as we see some debut performances there.
Henry Sibley Invitational: The Sibley invite will feature some eastern metro AA and AAA teams, highlights include Lakeville North, Henry Sibley, Mounds View, Benilde, and Simley. Section 3AAA has a tight group who will start to figure out their January standings after this one. Simley and South St. Paul continue to match up in conference action and should have a good day in the AA division here.
Winona Invitational: The Winona event will be an all class A plus Winona meet with a few fun additions including a road trip from Brooklyn Center to face off against section 1A. Wabasha Kellogg continues to have a good year and will be one to catch at this meet.
Lakeville South Invitational: The South invite will host strong programs from all over including Duluth East, Chanhassen, Rochester Mayo, and Moorhead. Talk about a cross section of the state! A nice AA division will showcase Cannon Falls, New Prague (who is making a move), Austin, Fridley, and Belle Plaine. A lot of teams here with something to prove to the judges. Should make for a good show. This is also the meet to catch some big name JVs while their varsity teams are at rest.
Northwest Suburban Conference Championships: The always impressive NWSC will be finishing up their year this weekend with a big final showdown. Look for Maple Grove to try to hold off powers from Totino Grace, Anoka, Spring Lake Park, Blaine, Andover, and a host of others from the north metro. Should make some statements for state tickets from section 4AAA.
Marshall Invitational: No Schedule at time of posting. Should be mostly class A from far southwest MN. Could possibly be a smaller meet since the Alex meet is now this same weekend.
Rochester Century Invitational: No Schedule at time of posting. SE regional teams in a small meet, if at all.
