Debut Weekend kicks off the 2017-18 dance team season.
It’s time for the first weekend preview of the year! It’s been so nuts-o getting ready that I nearly forgot about it. I’m sure you can relate if you’re also putting routines on the floor in the next 2 days. Let’s take our first peak at the weekend events for the year:
Northwest Suburban Conference Jazz Meet: Spring Lake Park High School
Friday night we get underway with one of the marquee conference matchups of the year with the 13-team strong NWSC. Big time names from Totino Grace, Maple Grove, Anoka, Spring Lake Park, and Centennial all qualified for state last year from this conference. This group is including B and JV jazz routines this year so they’ve bumped it back to a 6pm start time. Look for this one to set the pace for scoring heading into the weekend.
Rochester City Tri-Meet:
Also this Friday, the tri-angular Rochester teams will get started with a preview performance.
Delano Invitational:
A and AA will be showcased at the Delano invitational on Saturday. Check out debuts from Crosby Ironton, Rockford, and Hutchinson as they join the far west metro A/AA teams. Foley makes an early entrance as a brand-new team to the circuit.
Burnsville Invitational:
With the cancellation of the annual Maple Grove invitational, this one grew to a rather large and diverse first competition of the year. 7 AA/A teams will face off from all around the state, and the AAA division is 15 strong. Catch performances from Eastview, Lakeville North, Prior Lake, and Anoka from last year’s state field. Keep an eye out for routines with “promise” instead of delivery this time of year. Section 3AAA matchups will be interesting out of this one in particular.
Weekend Shows:
Some scored “shows” are also going on – check those out at Sartell, Cannon Falls, and Hopkins. The Sartell show will have some bigger northern MN names who will be working the jitters out before December hits.
Thanksgiving week events:
Conference events from Mississippi 8, Suburban East, South Suburban, Metro East, Metro West all on the plan pre-break. I’m still looking for schedules for these events – so send them in if you have a copy! Start times and performance orders get our fans moving in the right direction for these weeknight events.
