Weekend Preview – December 7th

Our invitational season really kicks into gear this weekend as we have 7 statewide invitationals taking place on Saturday. I’m missing a bunch of schedules, so I’ll do what I can to collect those and talk about the meets as I know them anyways…..First up, some web news. Check out the season composite as I’ve changed it to reflect an average score. With more and more meets coming in with 6 judges, I wanted to try to give you an easy apples to apples comparison point somewhere in there, so the final placement is gone and average is in. Hopefully that helps. It’s all a learning process, but I’m loving all the new comparison tools! Lets look at what we’ve got on tap for tomorrow:

Apple Valley Invitational: The historic AVaires invitational will take place as usual the first weekend of December. A small AAA field this year makes this one a long day for AA and A teams who will be in the mix there. AA is the featured class here as big names from all across the state come in to get first looks at each other. Marshall will be taking the floor for the first time along with strong teams from Fridley, Holy Family, South St. Paul, Simley, Cannon Falls, Austin, and the list goes on. Cannon Falls makes its AA debut, and Faribault will show their AAA dance for the first time as well. Should be interesting!

Chaska Invitational:  The Hawks return to AAA and host a HUGE lineup of AAA action.  No wonder they didn’t open this one up to AA or A.  If you want to know what’s what in AAA for the month of December, this is the place to be.  The Chaska gym is a tight squeeze, so get there early for the best seats.

Rogers Invitational:  The Royals host their first ever invite, with a good turnout of A/AA/AAA from a varied region.  Maple Grove will be shining bright here and we’ll get to see St. Cloud Cathedral make it’s first appearance this year.

Wow Factor Sports Invitational:  The Timberwolves play host to a dance team and studio meet at the Target Center.  Albany and Mayer Lutheran will be there from MSHSL teams.

Irondale Invitational:  Irondale takes its turn at hosting a new small invitational of mixed classes.  No schedule yet.

Forest Lake Invitational:  Forest Lake will host a small meet for section and regional teams.  No schedule yet.

Detroit Lakes Invitational:  The Lakers host their annual event with mostly section 4A and 4AA teams taking the floor for the first time this season.

Hayfield Invitational:  This one will be a small SE class A meet for  section 1A.  Most of the teams here will be making their season debuts.
