Weekend Preview – First Weekend of December

We have a busy schedule coming up this weekend and lots of action and tough matchups taking place all across the state.  Here’s a look at what key matchups we have coming up on Saturday:

Apple Valley Invitational

The AV invite is a classic and long held tradition for the teams that attend it and this year’s “Candyland” theme is sure to be top notch as coordinator and former AVaire, Tiffany Boozier, always puts on quite a show.  Key matchups:  Faribault, Austin, and Fridley will be having a rematch from the state tournament last year in the kick division.  Eagan, Blaine, and Maple Grove will be bringing their winning ways to the jazz AAA matchups and several south suburban conference members will be meeting in the kick division as a preview of their conference meets coming up in December.

Chaska Invitational

The 2nd annual Chaska invite is stacked in the AA and AAA categories again this year.  Some key matchups: 8 teams from last year’s AA state jazz tournament will be back to challenge double state champ Chaska for a trophy, while 7 AA kick state participants will go up against the class A powerhouse, Cannon Falls who is trying out the AA division for a taste of what it might be like as they are currently the largest school in class A and subject to re-allignment changes next season.     The AAA division looks to have Eastview jump in against the stacked lake conference teams in attendance who just fought it out last night and look to rematch.  Another not to be missed performance is whatever Burnsville is bringing to the table in kick – last year they jumped out strong early and I hope to see them come out swinging again.  Of course, Eastview and Wayzata look to do well in kick too after state performances last year.  This field is stacked from top to bottom and surprises are bound to happen – it’s anyone’s game!

Detroit Lakes Invitational

The lakers are playing host to an up north field of teams which will feature double state champion in class A, Aitkin.  Frazee will undoubtedly be looking strong this year with a solid membership base returning and will be looking to go head to head against area rival Pelican Rapids to set the pace for the year.

Hayfield Invitational

no schedule at time of press

Well this one seems to be back on after a previous cancellation.  Not too many details on this one, but should be hosting a small class A meet for SE Minnesota teams.
