Weekend Preview – Holiday Conference Championships

A huge weekend of events coming up means we have a part-2 today – featuring conference championships!

Northwest Suburban Conference Championships: Elk River (correction, Maple Grove)will be hosting the NWSC championships this Saturday in the start of our championship series. Totino Grace and Maple Grove both have a series of wins on their “sides” and will be looking strong here at the finish. Blaine, Spring Lake Park, and Anoka all have some 2nd place finishes which keep them in the hunt. Armstrong also has an outside shot of moving up, especially in jazz. Armstrong, Totino and SLP don’t have as much skin in the game being outside of section 4AAA, but will be testing out the waters to see if their routines will have what it takes come January and February.

Metro West Conference Championships: The eclectic mix of teams in the Metro West will be finishing up with their championship at Chaska Saturday. Benilde St. Margarets and Chaska are both strong performers here, with Chanhassen never to be left counted out in any mix they enter. Richfield, Bloomington and Cooper are looking to improve their scores and round out their conference season.

South Suburban Conference Championships: Rosemount will be hosting one of the premier conference matchups with the all AAA lineup in the south metro. Eastview remains undefeated this season with strong showings from Lakeville North, Lakeville South, and Prior Lake to say nicely on top of the leaderboards here. The depth of this conference is amazing when legacy names such as Apple Valley and Burnsville are placing below the top 5. Between these names and an up-and-coming Farmington program, there are at least 7 can’t miss performances in each style from one conference. Anyone in the top half here is looking pretty solid.

Metro East Conference Championships: The former Classic Suburban matchups from Simley, Henry Sibley, South St. Paul, Tartan, and Hill Murray will be finishing up on Tuesday 12/20. Simley and South St. Paul have been favored early, with big progress on each dance coming during each regular season meet. Watch for both of these 1AA teams to make a case for their upcoming section tournament.
