Weekend Preview- Holiday Invitationals

Isn’t it just bitter out there?! After a long end to the fall weather, the cold snap really makes it easy to spend entire days tucked in a gym for some dance team. Snowflakes will threaten our weekend events so stay tuned for updates on lineup changes and cancellations if things really take a turn. If you’re looking at schedules on mobile devices, be sure to click on the image of each schedule to expand it and see the whole order. WordPress likes to make those kinds of changes behind my back so it’s a new feature for this week on the schedule pages.

Our last big push before the holiday season is here and we have a special two-part edition of the weekend preview for you. Today, we’re looking at invitationals coming up Friday and Saturday, and join us again tomorrow for an in-depth look at the conference championships for the end of 2016.

ACGC Invitational: Our first of the Friday night matchups will be in Atwater where the Falcons will take on a small field of class A teams. Norwood, MACCRAY, BBE/Paynesville, and ACGC will take on new teams from Minnewaska and Sauk Center. A wide open field here in this cross-sectional matchup.

Frazee Invitational: The Fly Girls continue their Friday night invitational tradition hosting some section 4A teams. Crosby will be joining the regional mix for the first time this year and will face tough challenge from DGF, Pelican Rapids, and Frazee for top honors.

Waconia Invitational: The Lakettes are on a momentum surge after some strong invitational showings this month. They’ll be joined for a 14 team AA meet with names from as far away as Bemidji and Northfield, and New Ulm. Most of section 3AA will be on hand, so those matchups will be key. Orono, Rockford, Marshall, and Hutchinson have all had some top places this year and will look to take home hardware again here.

Lake City Invitational: The Tigers Dance Team will be hosting their traditional pre-holiday invite for south east regional teams. Zumbrota Mazeppa, Lake City, Randolph, and Houston will be worth a closer look at this meet.

Melrose Invitational: A mixed Class A and AA meet will be held on a Saturday for the first time at Melrose. St. Cloud Apollo, Detroit Lakes, PACT, Pierz, and an eclectic mix of 14 mid-state regional teams will be on hand to get some final scores before the break.

BOLD Invitational: The Diva’s will be packing the gym to the rafters as usual this year with their huge class A meet. Montevideo, BOLD, St. Charles, Worthington, New Ulm Cathedral, Lac Qui Parle, Cannon Falls, Bagley, YME, and Aitkin all want to break in to the top podium. What happens here will set an interesting tone for the upcoming January invites.

Academy of Holy Angels Winter Jam: The Starliners host a somewhat smaller group this year at their holiday invitational in Richfield. Mound Westonka, St. Cloud Cathedral, Austin, Rocori, Sauk Rapids will be schedule highlights for this year’s event. 10am start, so wake up early!
