Weekend Preview – January 11th Invitationals

We’re back in full swing after the break and school cancellation days. ACGC, Wright County Conference, Granite Ridge Conference, Rochester Schools, and Lake Conference all got going again last night. Tonight is a great festival of teams at the University of Minnesota’s annual Best of the Best show. If you’ve never ventured down to Williams Arena since the last state held there (2000) — you’re missing out! There is nothing like the University of Minnesota dance team and the teams at the showcase are truly the “best of the best” from all around the state. Show starts at 7pm. Saturday heats up the Invitational and Conference Championships scene with some big ones. Here’s what’s going on:

Northwest Suburban Conference Championships: Maple Grove plays host to the NWSC teams in their final bout. MG looks good to hold on to their title so far, but there will be battles in the ranks from Blaine, Andover, Champlin and the rest. Some pre-sections bugs will be worked out by now, so this should be a good one.

Missota Conference Championships: Chaska hosts this one and looks to defend their title against cross-town rivals Chanhassen and Academy of Holy Angels who is looking good in AA.

Mississippi 8 Conference Championships: St. Francis will hold the championship where they go up against rivals from Rogers and Chisago Lakes for the title in this new conference.

Rocori Invitational: This one will be a AA and A northern team matchup as a surging Rocori team tries to hold on over other St. Cloud area teams who have all been making their mark this year.

Rochester Century Invitational: A small class A/AA meet shares its crowd with the Winona invite this year. All SE teams.

Winona Invitational: The long standing tradition of the Winona Invitational plays host to a slightly smaller mix of A teams and the Winhawks who are AA.

Marshall Invitational: This one is wide open this year as the usual powerhouse in class A, YME will be in the city this weekend for the Best of the Best and Minnetonka Invitationals. Should give us a clue as to who is looking good ‘out west’ after the Alex meet got paired down due to weather.

Minnetonka Invitational: This one will be a AA matchup from the metro and section 3AA. YME will debut its jazz dance for the year at this one though, so keep an eye out for scores on that one.

Lakeville South Invitational: South will be the place for most of the AAA teams who aren’t at conference events this weekend, as teams shake off the dust from break. Faribault will return to the scene, with an eclectic mix of AAA to join them.

Waconia Invitational: A nice variety of A, AA, and AAA at this meet from all over. A few western class A teams join the mix here away from the Marshall meet.

Aitkin Invitational: The All-Stars will host teams from far and wide for a chance to see their jazz dance for the year and go against the score leader in class A kick.

Hawley Invitational: The far northwest A and AA teams will head to the red river valley for this annual event. Keep an eye on scores from here and the Aitkin meet for an early look at section 4A standings.

Action packed weekend ahead! We’ll see you Sunday for some results. Good luck!
