Weekend Preview – January 21

We’re coming into the final push as many teams head to conference championships and final invitation tune-ups before the post season kicks off.  I’m gonna do my best to take a stab at a weekend preview –  but I’m “stuck” in Mexico where I’m having trouble uploading your schedules!  Sorry it’s a little light this weekend – but I guess Mexico doesn’t think it’s a priority to allow bandwidth for dance.  Either way, I’ll be back on Sunday to catch up on your scores at least.  Can’t dodge the cold for too long while it’s dance season.

Wright County Conference Champs — The WCC has been another classic this year.  I feel like this group just gets better and better.  Hutchinson, Mound Westonka, Orono, Rockford, Delano, Waconia — all in the hunt.  I wish I could say this was a pre-sections statement, but it almost never means the show is over for this group.  A fun watch if you’re a AA fan.  Holy Family in Victoria hosts this year.

Totino Grace Invitational:  The big ticket AA event will be at TG for their annual tournament.  I remember watching this one the first year that Sartell won kick state – and this was the meet where the first thoughts of woah – they might get that together!  happened.  Every year it seem like someone starts a momentum track from this invite forward – and I don’t mean by winning.  Anyone top 4 here is looking good.

3 Rivers Conference Championships – the far Southeast A teams will battle for the title at Rushford Peterson.  St Charles, Wabasha, Dover Eyota, Houston, Lewiston – all get in the mix.  Without the bigger Hiawatha Valley League teams from section 1A – this one is all about the smallest schools getting some love.

Big 9 Conference Championships — Rochester JM hosts in what has been a busy year for Rochester area meets.  The annual battle of Austin vs. Faribault resumes for another year.  Usually this one comes down to who has a strong jazz program as well.

Pelican Rapids Invitational – The Valkyries dance team hosts the northern class A/AA bunch.  Frazee hopes to continue building it’s reputation heading into section 4A.  The jazz competition here should be pretty heated as DGF, UCB, Pelican, and Crosby continue to flip places.

Yellow Medicine East Invitational:  YME hosts the biggest and most far-flung group of A teams this week – often attracting a few from the metro and southeast to come and see how they hold up against top names from BOLD, Montevideo, YME, and Lac Qui Parle.

Bloomington Kennedy Invitational:  I haven’t seen a schedule yet for this one so I hope it’s got some attendance for the first year.  Considering the school hosts 3 section tournaments – you’ll see teams here getting a practice run.

Wayzata Invitational:  The big name AAA ticket at Wayzata rounds out the weekend.  Some teams will be debuting changes big and small or turning up the energy in their routines.  Watch for the few standouts – but don’t get too invested in these results – they’re notorious for having a few surprises.
