Weekend Preview – January 5th 2013

We’re back in action after winter break!  Dancers all across the state are tuning up those routines and working off those Christmas cookies with some serious cardio.  Lots of meets going on this weekend – I’m still missing quite a few schedules.  If you have one I’m missing – send it on over to mnhsdanceteam@gmail.com and I’ll get them up for spectators.

North Suburban Conference Championships – Robbinsdale Cooper:

The NSC will be fighting it out over at Cooper this weekend for the title crown.  This group tends to flip flop on championship weekend and anything can happen here.  Benilde and TG will be all over each other in both divisions, with Fridley trying to keep their new place on top of rivals Irondale and Spring Lake Park in kick.  There are always post-break surprises and I’d think they’d happen at this meet more than others.

Alexandria Invitational:

The alex meet is going to be a mini-state for class A teams and will also host a huge northern AA division in the evening.  Class A will host Aitkin, Duluth Marshall, YME, Frazee, Lac Qui Parle, Pelican Rapids, and BOLD from the state rosters, with a big pack of hopefuls from 3 of the 4 sections joining in.  Not to be missed for class A fans.  AA will boast 15 varsity teams from northern sections and should be a key turning point for those teams.

Blaine Invitational:

This one will be a big AAA matchup for northern section teams from section 4AAA where they go head to head with distant travelers from Brainerd, Moorhead, and St. Cloud Tech.  NW Suburban Conference members will make a strong showing here, but I’ll be watching to see where Brainerd ends up as an indicator of where things might be heading for the section 4AAA competition in February.

Henry Sibley Invitational:

The Sibley invite should be a fun one for the mix of teams that come to this one.  AAA is much of section 3 and a bit of section 1.  Should give some teams a shot at a trophy that otherwise wouldn’t at a mega-meet.  Its anyone’s game.  Host Sibley looks strong coming off another conference championship, with Chanhassen back again this year to defend their win from last year’s invite.

Belle Plaine Invitational:

This mix of A and AA teams will be a small and quick one.  No schedule yet.

Winona Invitational:

The Winhawks will be hosting their invite mostly for section 1 of class A and usually a few AA sprinkled in there. Schedule added 3pm 1/4/13

Tracy Invitational:

This looks like a small class A meet for the far SW corner of the state.  No schedule yet.
