Weekend Preview – January 9th 2016

2016 is really ramping up as we head into the first really big weekend of invitationals and even some conference championships.  Teams who are busy changing dances to something else are probably not on the radar this weekend, and you’re going to see a lot of Christmas break changes taking shape in front of the judges.  Lets look at the schedules:

Alexandria Invitational:  For many class A and AA teams, this meet is the most intense of the season.  This schedule is jam packed with top tier teams from class A including BOLD, Cannon Falls, Aitkin, Frazee, Crosby Ironton, Duluth Marshall, just from the state field last year and 12 others who are looking to make an impression.  On the AA side, state champ Sartell will be joining the large field of 12 teams.  The long standing rivalry of Sauk Rapids-Rice and Rocori will be in full force here as well and not to be missed.

Mississippi 8 Conference Championship:  Check out the Rogers and St. Francis teams here as they join the AA field where Chisago Lakes and Monticello are looking to raise their scores and set the tone for section 2AA in just 3 short weeks.

Rochester Century Invitational:  This small invitational will feature Goodhue and Southland in class A, and Farmington, Fairbault, Rochester John Marshall, Byron, Rochester Century, and Plainview in the AA/AAA mixed class.

Henry Sibley Invitational:  Back in the metro side of things, the Warriors will be hosting a 10 team AAA division and 8 A/AA teams in the afternoon.  Catch great performances from Prior Lake, Mounds View, Lakeville North, Austin, and host Henry Sibley.

Winona Invitational:  This meet will feature mostly section 1A as Dover Eyota, Zumbrota Mazeppa, Wabasha Kellogg and Lake City will take on their competition from the region.  This is the time of year where this group starts to show its pre-sections trends coming out so a lot will be on the line.

Lakeville South Invitational:  The Cougars will host a 10 team eclectic mix in the AAA division with some rare names from Brainerd, Duluth East, Chaska, Chanhassen, and Hopkins joining the invitational arena.  The JV and B divisions here look top notch if you want to see the future of dance – don’t miss those performances.  The A/AA division is also a unique matchup with names from all over from St. Charles to Rockford to Sleepy Eye and back again.  Rare appearances from Pine City and St. Paul Academy will rack in some scores from those teams we don’t see much from.

Belle Plaine Invitational:  This meet has grown to feature a large A and AA field including a reunion of the “old” section 2A before GFW and New Ulm Cathedral moved back to section 3.  AA will be largely section 3 teams.  Check out Delano, Orono, Belle Plaine, and Albert Lea here.

Northwest Suburban Conference Championships:  The extremely strong NWSC conference will be hosting its final round where Maple Grove, Anoka, Totino Grace, Spring Lake Park, Blaine, and Andover will all be in the hunt for some placements.  This conference hasn’t been all head-to-head yet and anything can really happen here.
