Weekend Preview – MLK Weekend

Its a 3-day weekend around here and we have tons of meets going on Saturday and Monday.  Lets review the action:

Mississippi 8 Conference Champs:  Chisago Lakes hosts the Miss 8 Championships where things look to be shaken up from the dominance of the Rogers program the past few seasons.  Chisago and St. Francis have both scored some wins this season and look to keep the momentum rolling.  Early start time here!

Anoka Invitational:  The twisters host a small A/AA division at noon with a 13 team AAA division in the late afternoon.  Forest Lake, St. Cloud Tech, Armstrong, Anoka, Farmington, Henry Sibley, and Chaska all have some strong finishes this year and should make these result interesting.

Rocori Invitational:  The “Cake” invitational as my girls would call it (because they award actual cakes to teams) kicks off with a big class A division at 9am.  Montevideo, Duluth Marshall, YME, BOLD, and Lac Qui Parle Valley have a chance to make a splash here.  The AA division will feature area teams from section 4AA and toss Rockford in there from 3AA.  We’re starting to develop some placement trends after this weekend for both this class A and AA groups.  Repeat wins here and from last weekend’s events would be a strong momentum builder.

Hawley (United Clay Becker) Invitational:  Pelican Rapids and DGF look to rematch with their jazz routines here in the far north battle for section 4A.  Crosby, Bagley, and Frazee will be on hand to continue to build their scores and will be worth catching at this invite.

Cannon Falls Invitational:  This growing invite has the most diverse mix of the weekend with a large showing from sections 1 and 2A (who never gets together) and southeast regional AA/AAA teams.  Wabasha Kellogg will look to try and top Lake City here again after last weekend, but Cannon Falls and Randolph will look to spoil the fun.  Irondale, Northfield, Faribault, and South St. Paul will try to mix things up in the AA/AAA side.

Belle Plaine Invitational:  Much of section 3AA will be on hand for this one with Austin jumping in the mix as spoilers.  Orono, Hutchinson, Belle Plaine, and Waconia have all been having their strongest seasons in a while – so it could get interesting here for the rest of the month.  Sleepy Eye, New Ulm Cathedral, and Concordia Academy will make up the A division.

Rochester Century Invitational: The Rochester area AAA schools will be getting together with some regional AA and A teams.  Dover Eyota, Kasson Mantorville, and Plainview will be looking to turn out some top scores in the small school division.

MACCRAY Invitational:  MLK day means no school but still dancing as MACCRAY will be hosting on Monday.  The evening meet will feature teams from YME, Worthington, Canby, ACGC, Lakeview, and BBE.  Several of these teams compete on Saturday too, so they’ll be looking for some consistency in performances.
