Weekend Preview – MLK Weekend

We have a busy few days of meets here to talk about – I can tell we’re getting close to the end now, it’s heating up! Check out the impressive lineups:

Friday 1/17: Northern Lights Conference and Central Lakes Conference Championships. The CLC will be declaring a winner tonight at Rocori. Brainerd and St. Cloud Tech will try to hold on to the top while Sartell tries to crack into the AAA hold. In the northern lights, expect Aitkin to bring in some top scores again in this league.

Saturday Invitationals:
Wayzata Invitational: Pretty much all of AAA that isn’t committed elsewhere will be at this one. I still haven’t seen a schedule yet however. Watch for some surprises here as this one never quite seems to settle who will really be on top as sections time comes. First showings of major changes or new dances come out here, and a lower finish doesn’t mean a dance won’t be strong by the end.

Totino Grace Invitational: This will be one to watch for AA action as TG has divided teams by squad size in addition to MSHSL classification of AA. Should be interesting to see what that means (or in my opinion, doesn’t mean) for the results. I’ll be interested to hear feedback on the format change after the fact.

Wright County Conference Championships: Section 3AA will primarily be here fighting it out for top honors. This group is unpredictable this year and there will be some changing of ranks yet again I’d suspect.

Big 9 Championships: Austin and Faribault will dual it out for top honors here in this eclectic mix of teams. This one is mostly for bragging rights as AA and AAA will go their separate ways after this weekend.

Pelican Rapids Invitational: Pelican takes on area rivals and will look to rematch against a surging Frazee team again this weekend. Section 4A is starting to shape up at this event.

Mayer Lutheran Invitational: Pretty much all of 2A will be here to set up some leaders heading into sections. Since there is no returning 2A section champ, it’s anyone’s pace to set.

3 Rivers Conference Championship: The far Southeast A teams will be getting together for their annual conference event, leaving out the big dogs from the Hiawatha Valley League that are still in class A.

Farmington Invitational: This relaxed invite will be a break from the intensity of the Wayzata meet, and a nice gathering of regional teams.

Yellow Medicine East Invitational: Section 3A will be gathering at YME to face the section champs jazz routine for the first time this year. Monte, BOLD, Lac Qui Parle, and YME have yet to meet up – so this one will be one to watch.

Superior Conference Meet: Duluth Area schools get together for a small meet.

Monticello Invitational: A new meet this year, no schedule at the time of press.
