Planning Ahead: Costume Season is Here!

It sure feels like once we turn the corner from 4th of July it’s already the home stretch of summer.  These long lazy days make it so easy to put off our planning and prepping for next year.  I got a chance to catch up with Deborah at Satin Stitches and she certainly doesn’t forget that we’re getting to crunch time for uniforms, music, and prep.  She shared with me some thoughts on avoiding the panic and building in time for those issues that always slow things down………………

Are you thinking about ordering new dance team costumes for this coming season? – Is it time to panic?

At Satin Stitches Ltd, some of our ‘on-top-of-things’ clients have already accomplished #1, #2 AND #3… Many have #1 and/or #2 under their fashionable belts and are proceeding to #3…

If you are looking and working towards ordering your new costumes, there is no need to panic YET, IF you are able to get your order placed to coincide with jam-packed, Fall and Winter delivery schedules.

No matter what company you plan on working with, you must allow enough up-front time for costume design sketching and estimating, and then debating and deciding, AHEAD of placing your order.

Is it just you, as head coach, or do you have assistant coaches, team captains and/or booster parents that will be in on the decisions?  Realize that this could take as long as several weeks or months. Don’t assume that this creative and contemplation period can happen in a day or two. You also need to be aware of your school/team’s regulations on purchase orders or check/credit card payments for costume orders. You need to allow time for securing your funding.

If you wish to keep your costume costs down, and need help with your costume inspirations, please consider ‘customizable’ options that we offer in  our Web Store. We have customizable basics and pre-designed options in many designs suitable for High School and JV dance teams. We will be adding many more in the next few weeks. Many other companies also offer ‘customizable’ costumes that can have a shorter turn-around time, and be less expensive than full custom. Maybe you can find something perfect for your team from pre-designed costumes in ‘your’ choice of fabrics and colors.
