Results Recap – December 15th Invitationals

Its the most wonderful time of the year!  And December invites are wrapping up with a few conference championships in the next few days, and certainly a lot of teams looking to hit the drawing board for new dances, revamping problems, and making ready for a spectacular new year of dance team competition!  Here’s what happened out there this weekend:

Lake City Invitational:  This one was big for the home school as the Tigers won the kick division, holding off a strong AA showing from PEM.  In jazz, Zumbrota soundly took the top spot over area rival St. Charles.  No other major surprises or shakeups here.

BOLD Invitational:  The YME team took home the gold in the kick division with their 2 different color costumes dance.  Kicks from these guys are looking good!  LqPV had to drop and didn’t get in the mix with top teams BOLD and RCW who rounded out the top 3.  Jazz was a split decision win for the Mayer Lutheran team, with hosts BOLD and RCW making strong finishes in this category as well.  This was a tight meet and section 3 should be a tough one for the rest of the year.

Maple Grove Invitational:  The Crimson continued to dominate with a double win over a tough field.  Andover continues to impress with a 2nd in jazz and St. Cloud Tech will be happy to take 2nd over the 2nd place in state kick team from Eden Prairie who settled for 3rd today.

South Suburban Conference Championships:  Eastview walked away with the top prizes, with a strong Eagan and Burnsville team making strong finishes as well.  Apple Valley did manage to climb on the podium in kick this time, getting a 3rd place in the finals at their school.  Several of these schools will likely change dances for the new year, should be interesting to see how this order might shake up going forward.

Edina Invitational:  Edina hosted a big AAA get-together, winning the jazz division over an eclectic mix.  Champlin Park took the win in kick.

Fridley Invitational:  This one had a surprise jump from the Montevideo team who was class A just 2 years ago.  They squeaked ahead of the host Fridley who has been doing very well so far in conference action and is not to be ignored themselves.  Forest Lake won both AAA divisions with ease, while Fridley and Byron took the top 2 spots in AA jazz.

Holy Angels Invitational:  Chaska pulled out the tight win over Sartell in kick this time, keeping the rivalry between the schools hot and heavy.  Faribault continues to stay ahead of Austin, and Benilde makes progress forward by jumping ahead of St. Cloud Cathedral.  In jazz, Chaska again takes the win while Benilde pulls in closer.  Sartell settled for 3rd and Simley stayed ahead of section rival Austin in 4th and 5th.  We haven’t heard the last from these AA matchups.  Stay tuned for big meetings again by the time we get to the Totino Grace invite in January.
