Results Recap – Thanksgiving Week

Happy early Thanksgiving dance teamers! Congrats to those of you who had debut performances last week and this past weekend. How exciting to see new, live dancing again! Totally exhausting day for me – I’m not used to those long days just yet. (I’m driving my team’s bus this year too – so that’s a new adventure all in itself. The things we won’t do for this sport, huh?) Now that we have some awesome scores to look at – lets dig in to the headlines of the action that’s gone down this past weekend.

Burnsville Invitational:
The story here is all AAA as Burnsville edged Brainerd in the kick division. It couldn’t have been tighter, with points both ending at 363/500 a piece. This rivalry is heading into serious territory for December. If these teams matchup again this season we’ll all be watching closely. In the jazz division, Forest Lake scored a huge win over powerhouse Eden Prairie. Forest Lake is certainly making last year’s state appearance seem like not a fluke. How exciting for them. EP will undoubtedly find some fire from this one.

Shakopee Invitational:
Hopkins came away with the win in the jazz division, while Lakeville North took the kick crown. Tiny class A Brooklyn Center got a place over AAA Roseville in kick, something we don’t get to see happen at large invites.

Maple Grove Invitational:
In class A, Duluth Marshall came out strong and took home the gold in jazz, while section rival Pelican Rapids took the kick title. Crosby and PACT were right behind in kick, giving us a preview of what’s to come for class A this year. The AA field had the biggest surprise of the day, with Fridley taking the jazz division over state finalist Sartell. Sartell and Mound Westonka (3rd) had more total points, but ranks determined the day. Looks like jazz had a lot of different opinions from the judging panel, leading to Fridley on top with their version of “the Garden”. AA kick had state runner-up Sartell taking a clear win. AAA jazz had state champ and meet host Maple Grove taking a big points lead in the AAA race and getting a W. The crimson are already averaging 84.4 points in week 5. Champlin Park can be proud of their big 2nd over strong contenders from Duluth East (3rd) and Chanhassen (4th). In the kick field, results were very similar. Maple Grove took home 1st again with their charming queen of hearts routine (great costume!) Champlin Park and Chanhassen rounded out the top 3.
