Summer Camp Season is Almost Here!

Can you believe that next week is already Memorial Day Weekend?!  Yikes, this spring sure has gone by in a blink.  There are some news and goings on to update you with as we’re gearing up for summer camp season.  First up, a few spring items.

Rules Committee Meeting:  The e/o year rules committee meeting is happening next Tuesday to discuss an unprecedented list of potential changes.  The summary document alone is 8 pages long.  Just digesting all the options is completely exhausting and will make for an eventful meeting.  The format of the meeting has changed from previous years.  5 Athletic Directors, 1 Coach representative from MADT, and 1 Judge representative from JAM will be there to work out the details.  In the past, there were 3 reps from each coalition – so now we’re pretty heavy on the ADs.  This was a change from the League.  Coaches and Judges who have opinions on proposals are welcome to reach out to voting ADs or their representative on the panel.  MADT has a survey up for you to use on their members only page – a great way to judge the feelings of the membership on not previously discussed issues.  The meeting is not entirely closed door – so there will be interested parties there to observe the proceedings with League permission.  I’ll be there to bring you final updates should decisions be made.  Change is a tough thing sometimes, so we can help our sport’s leadership out by refraining from speculation, rumors, and jumping to conclusions about how a rules change might actually go into place.  I have 100% confidence that there will be clarifications on interpretation and training on how to execute any rules changes.  We will not be left to fend for ourselves and I’m sure a calm, positive outlook would be much appreciated by the leadership of all groups as they put together the changes.

Summer Events on MNHSDanceTeam.com:  Stay tuned for some great updates on training and summer nutrition from our new resident nutritionist – Val Schonberg from EnlightenU Nutrition Consulting.  I am so excited she’ll be sharing her expertise here in a guest series of articles  – as nutrition for a total healthy body is near and dear to me.  Check back to see updates and ideas from her to fuel your summer and your upcoming season.

Summer Pre-Planning:  Don’t forget to start thinking uniform design this spring and summer!  The Line Up and Satin Stitches are running spring specials and are gearing up for another busy winter production season.  Don’t wait and miss out on key delivery dates – it’s already later than you’d think.  Satin Stitches has a May “refurbishment” special going for those looking to repurpose old gear, and The Line Up has a brand new team webstore application for ordering custom team spiritwear – a new venture for them.  The sublimation work they’re doing over there has GOT to be seen.  In the music department, our DJ’s and designers out there are filling up already.  Mark at Dirty Dog Productions tells me he’s got multiple projects already in the works for you quick thinking teams out there.  Way to be on it.  I can only wish I had every idea locked down this early!  Don’t worry procrastinators – music editing services go right on up and past the season start date.

Summer Waver Period and Camps:  Coaches can begin working with their dancers for summer training events once those summer wavers are approved online from the coaches’ clipboard.  If you’re interested in opportunities with your team or as an individual – there are a TON of things going on.  WOW Factor Sports is putting on a bunch of dance team camps around the metro area this summer and they sent me the schedule of events I’ve posted below.  These are great chances for individuals and teams both – so get signed up early!
