Ahhh….Summer Olympics. There is nothing better than a binge watch of 12 hours of gymnastics coverage in the last week. Team USA captures another impressive gold medal. We’ve cheered (and teared up), held our breath, and wanted to hold baby Boomer Phelps more than a few times already and we still have rhythmic and synchro swim still to come! This is the closest thing we’ll get to watching fresh dance routines for a while now, so I’m loading up the DVR with some great Olympic drama. If you’re doing the same (or had no idea it was even going on) – you’ll want to check out a great book I picked up to go along with all the action.
The End of the Perfect 10: (check out the amazon link here)

Not that I normally recommend books – but this is kind of a must-read for judges and coaches especially. While we struggle and inch towards dance judging perfection year after year – Olympic level gymnastics has been there and back again. A ton of key insights on what is “valued” in the art form, why scores bunch up at the top (and what to do about it), and how to make a scoring system that works for 5 year-old’s up to the pros. A quick read full of entertaining back stories and behind the scenes power moves that got them where they are today on the global stage. I hope you enjoy the book – be sure to drop some comments on the facebook page if you read it too! Happy gold medals to all!
