Weekend Preview – 16-17 Kickoff Edition

Well, I’m a bit behind.  November was really our first invitational weekend this year, but with the late fall – so am I also a bit slow in returning to winter dance and doing our usual weekend preview.  I’ll admit it’s feeling quite real this week as it’s time for me to return to home at Apple Valley (class of 2002 over here….) and compete for the 18th time.  Of course, I don’t “feel” those years.  Or maybe, I do!  Never the less, here we are for another year within a blink.

The first weekend of December is a huge invitational weekend for all of Minnesota as many teams will be taking the floor for the first time this Saturday.   If you haven’t caught our podcast series (The KickCast) – be sure to check out our latest episode on invitational dance meets.  Let’s preview each weekend matchup!

Brainerd Invitational:  The Brainerd Kixters will be hosting their first meet in several years now that they’re alternating seasons with the Chaska Invite.  Watch for a fun lineup of teams in AAA – Eastview will be making their invitational debut of their kick routine along with finalists from Chaska, Prior Lake, St. Cloud Tech, Lakeville South, and Wayzata to name just a few.  This one starts early (10:30am) so grab a coffee for that drive to the northland.

Hutchinson Invitational:  Section 3AA will be having their annual meetup in Hutch with teams from Belle Plaine, Waconia, Mound Westonka, Litchfield, Glencoe, and Delano joining in.  Keep an eye on the early returns from this group, but stay tuned.  Things always change as the year goes on with this section and early prizes won’t hold much sway come 2017.

Detroit Lakes Invitational:  The far north hosts another invite with the Lakers from DL hosting strong A and AA divisions.  Frazee, Bagley, and Pelican Rapids should be worth a look in the A division, while Alexandria, Moorhead, Becker, DL, and a new team from Foley will be making up the AA/AAA division.  (Welcome to the mix Foley!  Good Luck to you especially!)

Apple Valley Invitational:  The biggest lineup of the year so far will be in the Valley this Saturday with a huge A/AA/AAA meet.  Duluth East, Blaine, St. Francis, and Apple Valley all look strong in AAA, while AA will feature a state worthy lineup from South St. Paul, Marshall, Sartell, Faribault, Austin, and Sauk Rapids. Class A will have its biggest meet so far with St. Charles, BOLD, Cannon Falls, Crosby Ironton, Zumbrota Mazeppa, Randolph, PACT, WEM, Wabasha Kellogg, Lake City, and Concordia Academy.  The A division here hasn’t been this big in ages, so it should be a fun night.  This one runs 9:30am-9:30pm so bring a cushion!

Catholic Jamboree:  Totino Grace hosts the annual fundraiser catholic schools jam this year with Cretin, Benilde, Holy Angels, Totino Grace, Holy Family, and St. Cloud Cathedral all participating in the Ronald McDonald House fundraising show.  St. Ben’s college team also makes an appearance at this great event.

Forest Lake Invitational:  Section 2AA will be on show here with Hermantown, North Branch, Fridley, Monticello, Duluth Denfeld, and Rockford making the AA division.  This is also a small but meaningful meet for section 4AAA with Andover, Anoka, Mounds View, and Forest Lake rounding out the AAA division.

Shakopee Invitational:  Shakopee, Henry Sibley, and Hopkins will be having a relaxed meeting in Shakopee.  12noon start.

Hayfield Invitational: Southeastern Minnesota will be ramping up with a regional meet.  Dover Eyota will be wanting to make an impression against Rushford Peterson, Plainview, and section 1A.

New Ulm Cathedral Invitational:  New Ulm Cathedral will be having an important early meeting against rival/friends from GFW, Renville County West, New Ulm Public, and Sleepy Eye.   Late PM meet, expect late results returns.

WOW Factor Timberwolves Invitational:  The T-Wolves invite at the Target Center (home of state 2017!) continues to grow as we’ll see teams from 6 A/AA, and 7 AAA teams take the floor on the big stage.  Check out Maple Grove, Edina, Burnsville, Montevideo, and Eagan here for sure.  Pre-state warmup?  I should think so.

Huge weekend ahead.  Get those scoresheets ready and warm up the lungs!  It’s go time!
