Weekend Preview – Final Invitationals

We are at the bitter end of the invitational season, with a big weekend of final matchups before we head into sections week #1.  State is just 3 short weeks away, and then 2014 will be in the books!  Unbelievable.  We should get a break in the snow and bitter cold just long enough to hold some quick meets tomorrow, so get out and watch some quality dancing at the last meets of the season.

Blaine Invitational:  The Blaine invite is mostly a AAA, with an interesting matchup between Maple Grove and St. Cloud Tech going on here.  These 2 should be tough as Tech is placing well this year and Maple Grove is never less than dazzling this time of year. Should be wrapped up in time to get to the Eastview Showcase.

Prior Lake Invitational:  An eclectic mix of AA and AAA teams here, with Faribault looking good against 6 other section 1AAA teams.  Everyone should be getting a good final run before sections at this one.

GFW Invitational:  The voltage host a nice mix of section 2 and 3 A with some long awaited battles between Montevideo, YME, and BOLD finally happening.  After all the cancellations this year, who knows what will happen.  There can hardly be a trend established in section 3A with how often we’ve cancelled events for them.  Section 2A will rematch Rockford, Randolph, and PACT for the top spots in that section going into the final weeks.

Simley Invitational:  Simley should pull together a reasonable AA representation this weekend, with Austin, Chisago Lakes, Mound Westonka, Simley, and South St. Paul being the highlights.

Dover Eyota Invitational:  Section 1A will be meeting up at Dover to see who’s got it going on heading into sections in the same location in 2 weeks.  Zumbrota and Lake City will rejoin the 3 Rivers Conference mix of teams to see where things really stand.  Section 1A gets 4 kick spots to state, so there is room to not place here and still make it to state in 2 weeks.

Camden Conference Championships:  The tiny teams of section 3A will be in the camden championship this weekend in Canby.  Lac Qui Parle looks to defend its title here.

Catholic Jamboree:  This fun, all-catholic event is running early AM this year so Benilde can scurry on over to the showcase.  A really neat concept of getting like teams together from all classes and they raise charity funds at the same time.  This year AHA will be hosting.  Fast and fun, even if some of the teams are serious competition for each other.

Fergus Falls Invitational:  The northern A and AA will be here for a small get-together pre sections.

Mounds View Invitational:  The Winterfest meet should be a great JV championship and final performance.

New London Spicer Invitational:  No information at time of press.  Local central MN teams from class A and AA.

Eastview Showcase:  Ah, the showcase.  An interesting concept started a few years ago where the scores are not announced, shared with the team members, or reported publicly.  Even the judges don’t know who ended up “winning”.  The coaches sign a contract to this effect, and even the gate fees are split by participating teams.  Videotaping is not allowed, so don’t try trolling you tube – you have to go in person or wait for sections.  A little intense for my taste in dance team, but the elite teams at this one seem to value the private feedback.  Certainly for quick snooze-free entertainment, this one is not to be missed.  Get there early, it always snows and fills up.  Speculation welcome at #EVshowcase
