Weekend Preview – Holiday Magic

We’re heading into the holiday break with several conference finales and a few invitational events sprinkled in between the school break.  Considering how sick everyone seems to be, I’m surprised we’re still soldiering on as well as we are.  Don’t worry about it if you’re missing people in formations down this stretch, everyone else is too.

Next week, I’ll work on our leaderboards and update our half-way mark for the year.  It’s amazing we’re already at that point!  Enjoy a nice time with family and friends this holiday season, I’m wishing you a joyous one indeed.

Metro East Conference Championships:  Henry Sibley, Simley, and South St. Paul have been leading the way in this cozy conference and should be a comfortable lead for Henry Sibley at this point.  More of a final performance before break kind of event as the AA schools need not sweat the final placements.

ACGC Invitational:  Should be a smaller A meet, some years scores from this event can be eye opening and have some surprises.  Stay tuned for what happens here.

Willmar Invitational:  Most mid-state regional teams will be here for quite a long Friday night event.  I think this is the biggest lineup this event has seen since I’ve been posting schedules.  Look out for Detroit Lakes, Apollo, Marshall, and Montevideo in this one.

Suburban East Conference Championships:  Forest Lake has been leading the pack against Mounds View, Roseville, and a head turning Cretin program.  Could be an open field for places 3-6 as results and scoring have shifted as teams evolve for the year.

BOLD Invitational:  Finally, we get to see an event where the “host” school actually uses another venue (Buffalo Lake) in order to have a full-sized gym for a double-sided event.  I find this kind of first really fun, so let me know how it goes dancing and visiting a neutral site.  Wabasha, YME, BOLD, St. Charles, Duluth Marshall, and a new to class A addition from Holy Family should make this one a great challenge for reigning state champs from Lac Qui Parle.  I wouldn’t make any assumptions on the outcome here.

Richfield Mini-Meet & Triton Invitational:  I don’t have a schedule for these new events, but it should be a low key chance to take the floor before 2019 ends.

Metro West Conference Championships:  Chaska has a solid lead here against a very tough field including Benilde St. Margarets and Chanhassen as rivals.  Everyone will be focusing on personal bests and getting top scores of the year more than anything else.

South Suburban Conference Championships:  Eastview hosts what is probably the best spectator event of the weekend.  Getting 5th or better here is a huge step, so everyone will be bringing their best to achieve that rank.  Eastview is leading, but what’s interesting is the battle between Prior Lake and Lakeville North, especially in kick.
